Mentor Program

About the mentorship program:

The SMPS SeLA Mentor Program pairs early-career marketers and business developers (protégés) with established industry professionals (mentors) to foster personal and professional growth.

Throughout the year-long program (January–December), mentors and protégés will gain valuable career insights, strengthen professional skills, maximize their SMPS membership, and build lasting relationships. The program is open to all SMPS SeLA members in good standing and typically requires 1–2 hours per month.

Each month, Program Co-Directors will provide talking points and conversation starters to help guide discussions. Topics include Career Planning, Marketing, Business Development, and Making the Most of Your SMPS Membership.

Key Dates:
-    October 19, 2026 – Online Applications Open
-    November 25, 2026 – Applications Due (for both mentors and protégés)
-    December 2, 2026 – Panel Discussion (Current and Past Participants + 2027 Applicants Invited)
-    December 2026 – Committee Reviews and Pairs Mentors/Protégés
-    January 2027 – Program Kickoff Meet + Greet (virtual)

Eligibility:
-    Must complete the Mentor/Protégé application by the deadline
-    Participants must complete a Mentor/Protégé Commitment Letter and participate in at least 10 mentor/protégé sessions during the program year. Sessions may be held in person or virtually.
-    Members must be in good standing with the chapter (financial good standing means national member dues are paid, and no outstanding balances)
-    Mentors must have at least five years of professional experience.
