Join the SMPS Austin Chapter for this virtual panel! Beyond the buzzwords and the statements, Diversity and Inclusion are topics that the AEC industry needs to address. Learn from top AEC leaders across the country why diversity matters, what firms can do, and how you can share actionable ideas to help your firm.

This panel is open to all SMPS members and we encourage you to invite your firm leaders. Please note we will have an "After the Event" informal discussion from 11-11:30.

Our Panelists:

  • Alicia Mojica Washington has over 16 years of marketing experience in the A/E/C industry. Alicia is currently President-Elect for the Connecticut Chapter of the Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) and leads their Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce.
  • Ming Thompson is co-founder of Atelier Cho Thompson, a New Haven- and San Francisco-based multidisciplinary practice working between architecture, interiors, graphics, and strategy. Ming was a recipient of the AIA Young Architect Award in 2020. Educated at Yale College and the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Ming has taught at the California College of the Arts and has served on design juries around the U.S.
  • Jamie Claire Kiser is Zweig Group’s Director of Advisory Services. Her responsibilities include strategic leadership over all of Zweig Group’s consulting areas, including valuation, ownership transition consulting, marketing consulting, M&A, recruiting and executive search, and strategic planning.
  • Peter G. Smith, FAIA, is president and CEO of BWBR, a multifaceted design firm helping organizations perform better through exceptional environments. He has been leading BWBR through a journey of greater gender and racial equity, starting with an equity taskforce and a comprehensive staff awareness and education campaign. This has led to an ongoing effort to retool company operating procedures and policies, paired with robust advocacy with clients and professional networks.
  • Jami Lorenz, PE is the Principal in Charge of Business Development for DCI Engineers in Bozeman, MT. A structural engineer by trade, Jami oversees the entire business development strategy for the firm through engagement, education and trainings. Jami has been an active member of the Structural Engineering Engagement & Equity Project (SE3) which is program created by the NCSEA with the mission to improve engagement and equity in structural engineering.

Moderator:

  • Janki DePalma, LEED AP, CPSM is the Business Development Manager at DCI Engineers.  In addition to managing the new business and client care efforts for the Denver and Austin markets, Janki has helped pilot the firm’s Client Experience Workshop.  She is the Education Director of SMPS, an inaugural member of Zweig Group’s ElevateHer Cohort, and an AIA Leadership Collective Class of ’19 Alumnae.
