February 2018

Dear SMPS SeLA Chapter Members and Friends,

Today marks the beginning of CPSM Week 2019. In honor of this celebration, our chapter will be sharing social media posts on our Facebook and Instagram platforms communicating the value and distinction of the CPSM program. Our 100+ member chapter currently has seven CPSM certificated professionals and our goal is to grow that number in the coming years. In tandem with these efforts, the chapter’s educational efforts will focus and target the SMPS Six Domains of Practices - the body of knowledge that outlines the disciplines and skills required for successful professional services marketing.

The Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) certification program is a distinction and voluntary certification designed to elevate the professional standards in marketing and influence the future of this vital field.

A CPSM is recognized as an individual who has met a rigorous standard of experience and expertise in marketing professional services and has demonstrated their knowledge of the practice and related disciplines through a thorough examination of marketing competency. This individual further adheres to the ethics and responsibilities of the profession as outlined in the CPSM Code of Ethics.

The achievement offers a wide range of important benefits including:

  • Increased knowledge in strategic market planning, market research, plan implementation, business development, and promotion
  • Demonstrates dedication to the professional services marketing profession
  • Industry recognition of professional competence
  • Enhanced credibility with employers, clients, and peers
  • Improved ability to compete in the job market
  • Potential for increased compensation and benefits
  • Career advancement
  • Public recognition in the roster of CPSMs on the SMPS web site
  • Invitation to CPSM-only educational and networking programs
  • Access to the CPSM communities on MySMPS and LinkedIn
  • Continuing Education opportunities through local chapter and/or society level to maintain certification

Currently, a group of members have established a “grass roots” study group for the CPSM exam. If you are interested in joining or learning more, please email our Chapter President-Elect, Alexis Vigier Miranne at

As we continue the conversation on CPSM certification, please do not hesitate to reach out and ask any current or past board member questions you may have about certification.
